Kira Cohen-Milo, MS coordinates and managers Greenmarket Youth Education for GrowNYC which involves +6,000 K-12 students touring the Greenmarkets each year through classroom trips and summer programs. She also coordinates the implementation of GrowNYC’s Seed-to-Plate curriculum into three New York City schools each semester. Seed to plate is a 10-lesson in-depth interdisciplinary curriculum that incorporates agriculture, nutrition, farmers markets, and cooking. It aims to promote New York City’s 5th graders’ understanding of our food system and invoke behavior change through the combination of classroom lessons, field trips, a farmer visit, a chef demonstration, sensory tastings and hands-on preparation of diverse healthy local food. While completing her degree in Nutrition and Public Health Kira taught Nutrition and Health Literacy classes in public schools in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx through multiple organizations; HCZ, TC Zankel Fellowship, Studio in the School, and Greenmarkets.
